Can I start at Oxford before my 18th birthday?
The University does not set any age requirements, but applicants for all undergraduate courses will be expected to demonstrate a mature approach to the study of their subject which includes demonstrable skills of critical analysis, wide contextual knowledge and the ability to manage their own time without the external imposition of a full daily timetable.
There is no age requirement for admission to Cambridge, although the vast majority of undergraduates are 18 years or older when they come into residence. All applicants will need to demonstrate that they have the maturity and personal skills to cope with university level study.
Admission to the school is based upon academic merit. As the school has a responsibility for safeguarding children under English Law, appropriate senior staff will be notified of an offer of admission made to anyone who will be younger than 18 years of age at the time of registration.
Students entering the School of Medicine must have reached the age of 18 by 1 October in the year of entry. This is due to the pattern of delivery which requires compliance with patient contact regulations in the first term.
